Covenants

Each Lake Templene subdivision is governed under restrictive covenants and ordinances. Please check your covenants regarding out buildings, clothes lines, fencing, propane storage tanks, etc. If you do not have a copy of your covenants you can obtain one from the Centreville Courthouse. Please follow the rules as stated in these covenants to maintain the aesthetics of the lake and keeping within the guidelines of your subdivision.

Jet Ski Rules

  • If the engine isn’t running, you have no steering control. Shutting the engine off does not stop you immediately.
  • It is illegal to ride your PWC without attaching the lanyard properly between the switch and yourself.
  • It is illegal to operate a PWC between one hour before sunset and 8:00 a.m.
  • It is illegal to jump the wake of another vessel unnecessarily close to the other vessel.
  • It is illegal to harass wildlife or disturb aquatic vegetation with your PWC.
  • Before allowing anyone to operate your PWC: make sure they have taken a boater safety class, know basic boating safety and “rules of the lake.”
  • You and anyone on board must wear a personal flotation device (life jacket), and should know how to swim.
  • Keep hands, feet and hair away from the pump intake.
  • Make sure engine is off when cleaning debris away from the pump intake.
  • Children 7 and under are not allowed to ride on or be towed behind a PWC unless with a parent or legal guardian.
  • No one less than 12 years old may legally operate a PWC.
  • Before children 12 – 14 may operate a PWC, they must have obtained a boating safety certificate prior to 1-1-99, be accompanied solely by his/her parent/legal guardian, and be on a PWC designed to carry at least two people.
  • People born after 12-31-78 may operate a PWC after obtaining a boating safety certificate. Those born 12-31-78, or earlier may operate a PWC without restrictions.

Water Craft Registration And Rules

  • REGISTRATION: Watercraft owners must apply for registration and decal. Registration must be carried and displayed upon request.
  • EQUIPMENT: Everyone should wear life jackets. Those 12 and over that are being towed should wear a type 1, 2, or 3 life jacket. Children 12 and younger should wear a type 1 or 2 life jacket.
  • AGE: A child under 12 can operate watercraft powered by a motor of no more than 6 hp without restrictions. Children 12 and under can operate a 35 hp motor supervised onboard by a person at least 16 years of age. Children 12 and under may not operate a boat powered by a motor of more than 35 hp under any condition. Children 12 -15 may operate a boat powered by a motor of more than 6 hp, only if they have passed a boating safety course approved by the DNR, and have onboard their boating safety certificate or are accompanied by a person at least 16 years of age. Children 16 and older may operate any boat on the waters of Michigan.
  • ACCIDENTS: A watercraft accident must be reported to the police if there is a death, disappearance of a person, personal injury, or property damage estimated at $100.00 or more.
  • LIABILITY OF OWNER: The “owner” of a watercraft is liable for any injury caused by a negligent operator.
  • ALCOHOL: No one shall operate a watercraft if he or she is under the influence of a controlled substance.
  • SAFETY: Always look behind before making a turn. Leave the vessel off until all are aboard. Be aware of weather conditions. DO NOT STAY ON THE WATER DURING A THUNDERSTORM!!!!!
  • COURTESY: Use courtesy and common sense while sharing the waterway. Respect the peace and quiet of lake residents. Don’t operate watercraft for long periods of time in the same area. Don’t chase or harass the wildlife.

Animal Control Rules

Animal control enforces the law that all dogs wear their license tags and are kept under their owner’s command at all times while they are outside. Dogs are not allowed to roam the neighborhood unattended to. Please keep your dog from wandering into your neighbor’s yard or from running loose without supervision.
